Pentasa 1 gm Enema is an aminosalicylate. It works directly on the site of inflammation (swelling) in the lower parts of large intestine (colon and rectum) to provide rapid relief from attacks of ulcerative colitis. It suppresses the production of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause intestinal inflammation, thereby reducing ulceration, bleeding and painful symptoms.

Pentasa 1 gm Enema may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Pentasa 1 gm Enema is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
If you are taking Pentasa 1 gm Enema, monitor the baby for diarrhea.
