Sepgard Solution is an incomplete ferrous salt. When applied to fresh abrasions, it stops oozing of blood. It does so by activating an enzyme (thrombin) which promotes clot formation. Additionally, it combines with blood proteins to form a gel-like substance that covers and protects the wound surface. This further stops bleeding.
