Furosemide is a loop diuretic. It acts on kidneys and removes excess water and certain electrolytes from the body through urine.
Dehydration, Decreased potassium level in blood, Decreased magnesium level in blood, Increased blood uric acid
Furosemide is used in the treatment of oedema, high blood pressure and hypercalcemia.
It treats oedema (fluid overload) associated with heart, liver, kidney or lung disease.
Both Furosemide and Torasemide are loop diuretics and are used to treat high blood pressure and edema caused by an underlying liver, kidney or lung diseases but Furosemide is also used in the treatment of hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood). However, Torasemide has a long duration of action and is safe to use in patients with renal failure as compared to furosemide.
