Tixylix Alert Syrup is a combination of two medicines: Promethazine and Pholcodine, which relieves dry cough. Promethazine is an antiallergic. It blocks the action of a chemical messenger (histamine) which is responsible to trigger cough due to allergy. Pholcodine is a cough suppressant. It suppresses cough by reducing the activity of cough center in the brain.

Tixylix Alert Syrup may cause excessive drowsiness and calmness with alcohol.
Tixylix Alert Syrup may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Tixylix Alert Syrup may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Tixylix Alert Syrup is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Tixylix Alert Syrup may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
However, caution is advised in patients with severe kidney disease as it may cause excessive sleepiness in them.
