Description of Glucobay M50 Tablet

Glucobay M50 Tablet should be taken with food. Take it regularly at the same time each day to get the most benefit. Your doctor will decide what dose is best for you, and this may change from time to time according to how it is working as per your blood sugar levels.Keep taking this medicine, even if you feel well or your blood sugar levels are controlled. If you stop it without consulting your doctor, your blood sugar levels could rise and put you at risk of kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems and loss of limbs. Along with taking this medicine, you should also include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor. Your lifestyle plays a big part in controlling diabetes.The most common side effects of this medicine may include flatulence, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fluid retention (edema), and increased liver enzymes. However, these are temporary and usually subside on their own. If these do not resolve or worry you, please consult your doctor. He/she might suggest ways of dealing with your side effects or treating them if they are bothersome.You should not take it if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus, if you have diabetic ketoacidosis (high levels of acid in your blood), or if you have severe kidney or liver disease. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have ever had heart disease. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. Your blood sugar levels should be checked regularly and your doctor may advise blood tests to monitor your blood cell counts and liver function.

How to use Glucobay M50 Tablet

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Glucobay M50 Tablet.

Glucobay M50 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.

Glucobay M50 Tablet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.

It is not known whether Glucobay M50 Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react.

Glucobay M50 Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Glucobay M50 Tablet is recommended.
Use of Glucobay M50 Tablet is, however, not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advisable while you are taking this medicine.

Glucobay M50 Tablet is probably unsafe to use in patients with liver disease and should be avoided. Please consult your doctor.

  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting or stomach pain as Glucobay M50 Tablet may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood.
  • Along with your regular doctor visit, you might also need regular check-ups with an eye clinic and a foot clinic as well.
  • Your doctor will also advise you to test for sugar in your blood using a home diabetes test kit regularly to check that your sugar level is being controlled.
  • Along with a healthy diet, indulge in light exercises regularly and quit smoking and drinking.
  • If you feel excessively thirsty, pass urine more frequently, and get tired easily, then let your doctor know. These are the signs of very high sugar levels in your blood and your treatment may need adjusting.
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) may occur if Glucobay M50 Tablet is taken along with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or on delaying/skipping a meal. Check your blood sugar levels and have a snack/sugar source for immediate relief.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience any deep or rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting or stomach pain as Glucobay M50 Tablet may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood.
