Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Methergin Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Methergin Tablet is an ergot alkaloid. It works by causing sustained contractions of the smooth muscles of the uterus. This results in compression of the blood vessels which controls bleeding after delivery.

Methergin Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Methergin Tablet should be used with caution during lactation. Breast feeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.
It is not known whether Methergin Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react.
