Description of Alkem Ors Powder

Alkem Ors Powder is a WHO-based ORS (oral rehydration salt) formula. Oral rehydration salt is a combination of dextrose and a number of essential electrolytes (sodium chloride, Potassium chloride, sodium citrate). ORS Powder restores body fluids and electrolytes, lost due to dehydration in during diarrhoea, vomiting, muscle cramping, and exertional heat illness while exercising in hot or humid weather.

Note: Be careful to mix the right amount of water. If you use too little water, the drink could make the diarrhoea worse

Key Ingredients:

• Sodium Chloride (NaCl)

• Potassium Chloride (KCl)

• Dextrose Anhydrous

• Trisodium Citrate dihydrate

• Sodium chloride is essential in the body to make fluid balance. Sodium chloride is utilised by body cells for its normal function

• Potassium is an important electrolyte that functions in the maintenance of water balance and distribution, acid-base balance, muscle and nerve cell function, heart function, kidney and adrenal function

• Dextrose anhydrous is a pure form of dextrose, commonly called glucose. Dextrose anhydrous provides instant energy. It is the primary ingredient in oral rehydration salts (ORS)

• Trisodium citrate dihydrate is a tribasic salt of citric acid. It is produced by complete neutralisation of citric acid with high purity sodium source and subsequent crystallisation

• Dissolve the contents of the packet in the amount of drinking water indicated on the packet, 1 litre

• If drinking water is not available, or if you are not sure the water is drinkable, boil the water for at least 10 minutes and then let it cool before using it

• Stir well, and give to the child to drink in a cup or spoon feed

• Read the label carefully before use

• Keep out of reach of the children

• Do not exceed the recommended dose

• Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight

• Maintain a simple and healthy diet

• Stay hydrated by drinking clear fluids, oral rehydration solutions, and avoiding caffeine and alcohol
